What is the energy efficiency of a hydronic system?

Buildings with hydronic heating systems tend to use less energy for heating compared to those with forced-air systems. Here are a few reasons why: • Hydronic systems don't change the air pressure in a room, so they don't push warm air out through tiny cracks or openings in the walls or windows. • Hydronic systems that mainly heat through thermal radiation, which reduces uneven air temperatures in a room, leading to less heat escaping through the ceiling. • Rooms heated by radiant heat often feel comfortable at lower air temperatures, saving energy. • Hydronic systems can be "micro-zoned," meaning you can keep unoccupied rooms at lower temperatures, reducing overall heat loss and fuel usage. • The pumps in modern hydronic systems use much less electricity (often just 10%) compared to the blowers in forced-air systems with the same heating capacity.
